Mountain bothies evoke images of cabins high in the mountains but where do these refuges actually sit within the landscape? The latest version of the bothy print focuses in on the Lookout in Skye. The inspiration for the original print.
This print maps the mountain bothies from south to north where each mountain represent a different latitude (the mountains on the right of the print are further north). The profile of the mountains illustrate the altitude of each bothy where the base of the mountains are at sea level.
This updated version has a new painterly feel to it. Each mountain was hand painted using watercolours to bring a natural feel to the print. I then scanned the water coloured mountain sections into the landscape to create the final piece.
The bothy itself is situated at the same altitude as the lookout bothy. Perched high above the cliffs overlooking the sea, you have a real feeling of standing on top of the world. In reality, this bothy is situated relatively close to sea level in comparison.
