Winter brings the biggest swells but how do the other months and seasons compare.

It turns out that the changes in wave height are pretty consistent.

Using data from the 'celtic waverider' situated on the west coast of Scotland, this print studied daily data for the past 12 years to find patterns in wave height. Regardless of the location, the patterns were always the same. The celtic waverider just had relatively bigger waves.

In this design, each line represents a different month where each of the meteorological seasons are labelled. It's fascinating to see how these waves jump in height between seasons. The design was inspired by a poster created for an exhibition on Japan in the Museum of Design in Denmark. The Japanese text across the front is a nod to this design and simply reads 'surf'.
