My work is always sparked by nature. But few pieces have such an intimate connection as this piece.

And unfortunately this wasn't a tale with a happy ending.

When out for my morning walk, I spotted a very young hedgehog in the middle of the greenspace. Being out in the day and in such an open space with birds and dogs, I assumed he was going to be dead.

But he wasn't.

Unfortunately he had a cut across his face. Not knowing who to call, I tried a hedgehog hospital in Rosyth. And whilst they weren't able to take him in, they did direct me to the vet. This was news to me, but vets will take in and treat wild animals. For free.

The hedgehog couldn't be saved but he undoubtedly had a kinder ending. 

That experience made me want to do something positive. And the best way I know how is by telling stories through data.

And so this hedgehog print looks at all the conservation areas across Europe, ordered east to west, with hedgehog habitats.  So each spike is a single area. If there are multiple sites within that area then the spike is gold.

£4 of every print sold in September will be split between the British Hedgehog Preservation Society and the Forth Hedgehog Hospital (donations will be sent in one go at the end of September).
