Mapping summit data of all 282 Munros.

I've used various proxies in an attempt to understand the Scottish landscape. Exploring the landscape through every Munro (mountains in Scotland over 3,000ft) are perhaps the most telling of all.

The thing that really caught my attention is how much bigger Ben Nevis is than every other munro, towering over like an anomaly in a dataset.

The Details

Using data from all 282 summits, each row represents six summits travelling from west to east. The top of the line marks the height and the length of the line shows the difference to the next highest mountain.

Ben Nevis is positioned at the top right as it's the most westerly of the six tallest mountains and the length of its line shows how much it towers above the rest.

The gaps between the rows indicate location where the gap increases the further north you travel.
