Mapping the wettest location in the UK across almost a century.
Cycling along the coast beneath blue skies, I took a turn inland and was suddenly beneath dark rain clouds.
It made me wonder whether it is always raining somewhere.
The Details
Using data from 366 different locations to represent every aspect of the British Isles from north to south, east to west, island to mainland and mountains to coastline. This piece investigates every day of the rainy season to see if there was some rainfall somewhere.
Each row of rainfall represents a different day from October 1st to January 31st and years are shown by column from 1934 on the left to now. Dense lines indicate heavier rainfall and the rare gaps reveal a handful of dry days.
